Make a joyful noise

'Make a joyful noise to the Lord all ye lands'. Psalm 100: 1

You can hear a joyful noise when you go to a football game and see a player run down the middle of the field with the rest of the players following (particularly if the person is on your team). You can hear a joyful noise when a basket ball player is in middle court and throws the ball and makes a basket in the last second of the game. You can hear a joyful noise when a soccer team of hockey team makes a goal. You can hear a joyful noise when a grand slam is hit in baseball.

This joyful noise is made by both men and women. It is not only the women who are emotional. When we hear ‘Make a joyful noise to the Lord” in church – we are supposed to make a noise louder than one we would make at a sporting event. Don’t you think that God has done a little more for you than any sports team? An appropriate joyful noise would be to shout “GLORY” , “ALLELUJIA”, “THANK YOU JESUS”, to name a few.

Do you have a ‘hole in your chest? Have you ever tried to fill it up with sports? Things? People? And to your dismay, the hole is still there? Sometimes you think that the holes will be filled but it is still there. Jesus is the only person who can fill the hole and make you whole.

We are a small church that is in the middle of Los Angles. We are so small that Pastor not only knows our names, he has time to give us care and correction. I love being saved at Greater Bethel.

Right now we have a need for money. We would appreciate any contributions. I am reminded of the movie Joe. When he was a huge gorilla and needed to go back to his original land. The little guy handed the girl a dollar and told her to use it for Joe. She looked at him and smiled sadly and though – you know this is really sweet – but I need a WHOLE lot more. And people gave. Members bring in people to church, and these people get saved. As a result of getting saved, a lot of people have gotten better jobs ( me included I used to work three jobs and had no children, now I only work one job and have three children).

If at all possible, please contribute.

We moved to Figueroa Street a little over a year ago. Pastor Martin is our pastor. When Pastor preaches, it seems that he is talking directly to you and addressing you with any particular problem that you might be going through at the time. I have never left the church without being blessed and being assured that not only is there a God, but He is a very caring God, and even though He has billions of people under His care, He has time to listen and care for you as an individual.

I used to think that, Yes, there was a God, - somewhere - but was He a personal God? - NO WAY!! Was there a God who would care about ME?? Take time to listen to ME?? NO WAY!!. Then I got saved. WOW was I ever wrong!! I got baptized in the name of JESUS, and filled with the Holy Ghost. My life has changed 180 degrees.

I am going to only talk about two things that I have been blessed with because if I do not limit myself, I will be talking longer than the girl in One Thousand Arabian Nights.

My husband is not good at remembering special occasions - you know like Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries... I was praying and told God that I would like some flowers for my birthday (flowers that did not come from my co-workers - a bad case of not appreciating what you have). The rose bushes in front of the house had tight buds the day before my birthday. The day of my birthday, every one had bloomed. WOW!! THANK YOU JESUS!
I am an older mom. I am fifty seven years old and my oldest child is 21 (we have been married for 37 years). God waited to give me my children so I would not take their lives because I was such an unstable person. I was so messed up that I would have taken my life along with my kids, and my mother-in-law, and not thought that I was doing anything wrong or about the intense pain that would have caused the remaining family members. I have three children now, all healthy, all loving, all caring. THANK YOU JESUS!!!

I want to talk about the church now. When we moved, we needed to renovate the building. We are still in the process of renovation, but we are lacking funds. If you would like to donate money (completely tax deductable) or if you would happen to know anyone who would like to donate money - no amount is too small - or too big - please contact Pastor Martin at
